Spring 2022

Students will introduce themselves and show a picture of the child they sponsored. We will rec- ommend that students write their first letter to their sponsored child before this meeting.

 Food!

This month students will prepare a meal that your sponsored child might eat.

Research the food your sponsored child might eat and find recipes. Visit an international grocery store and purchase the items you need. Prepare the food and serve it to your family. Take pictures or videos of your shopping, preparation, and enjoying the food and share it with the group. Each student will have a chance to tell the group about the foods they love and those that they don’t love as much.

 Geography and Climate

This month students will explore the geography and climate of your sponsored child.
Research where your sponsored child lives. Students will create a diorama that they will add to for several months. Use a large shoe box or a cardboard strawberry box from Costco to create the environment where your sponsored child lives. Glue sand, dirt or rocks on the bottom of your box and add mountains or blue for water if your child is near mountains or water. Keep this diorama because we will be adding to it through- out the year.

Housing

This month students will explore the types of housing in the region your sponsored child re- sides. Research the types of housing that is com- mon in your sponsored child’s region. Use markers, scissors, tape, and card stock paper to create a house, store, and other structures of your choice. Tape these into your shoe box to create a small town.

Cloting

This month students will explore the clothing worn by your sponsored child’s family.
Research the materials used to make the clothing of your sponsored child’s region and what they wear. Recreate an outfit on a paper doll that you make or create clothes for yourself and wear them for a day. Add your paper doll to your box. If you dress like your sponsored child, be sure to create a video of yourself or show up to our Zoom session dressed up.
LETTER: In March, we’ll be discussing the favor- ite sport of your sponsored child. For the letter you write to your sponsored child this month, please ask them which sport they like the most and why.

Transportation

This month students will explore the common types of transportation available to your sponsored child. Research the types of transportation your sponsored child uses. Do they have a car, ride a bike, walk, or take a bus? If they are near a body of water, they may use boats to travel from one place to another. Create a cut out of a method of trans- portation, like a bus, and add it to your diorama.
